Well, I can't claim that I've done very well with this spot over the
past year. I've managed to eke out just 14 rants counting this one
since January 1st of last year. All in all I'm pretty disappointed in
myself. I think one of my major downfalls has been that I've tried to
be too picky about what I'll put in this spot. For a place that started
out as simply somewhere for me to put my own thoughts on current
issues, I turned it into someplace that I would only put things that
inspired me to write about them. I realize now that with everything
else going on in my life right now that is a bit too much pressure.
After all I'm not a professional writer or anything.
In the coming year I plan to take it a bit easier on myself and just
let these rants flow with whatever I happen to be thinking about.
Hopefully that will result in a much better success rate of actually
having something new out there every week. I do believe I can tell you
right now what my new year's resolution will be. Simply to update this
space at least 50 times in the coming year. That allows me 2 weeks to
slack off if necessary. I'm going to try and build up a stock of rants
over the next month or so, that way if I can't come up with anything to
write about I'll have one already written that I just have to activate.
I don't know how well that will go, but I'll at least give it a try.
Additionally to start the new year I plan to replace the WWII Journal
portion on the front page with a new "Guest Rant" section. I put it to
a vote in the message boards and while I didn't get an overwhelming
response, I didn't see anyone vote against the idea either. No
guarantee that it will get updated on a regular basis, as I will have
to rely on others to submit rants to me in order for me to have
anything to post there. Look for the guidelines for submission of a
guest rant to be somewhere on the site in the next couple of weeks.
While I'm not a big fan of censorship everyone will have to keep in
mind the fact that I want to keep this site as clean as possible. While
I won't censor submited rants just because I don't happen to agree with
their content, anything overly vulgar, or that I just don't feel fits
with the overall theme of this site will likely not make the final cut.
Hopefully the guest rants will also give me some additional ideas of
things to build my own rants on. Especially if the Ranter happens to
choose a subject that I have a different point of view on. In any case
I'm hoping for a good improvement of the overall quality and output of
this site in the coming year, so stay tuned!
